Launching free, online resources on Welsh history during Covid-19

During the Covid-19 pandemic, In Character are releasing a series of songs from their most popular shows on a YouTube channel. They are available for free for schools and parents to share and enjoy with their children. Seven songs are available, all which tell the story of a different character or event in Welsh history – Lord Rhys; Black Bart; Llywelyn the Last; Owain Glyndŵr; On Board the Mimosa; Dic Penderyn and the Industrial Revolution.

You can see some of the videos available on our Resources tab or by visiting our YouTube channel directly.

This is a great opportunity, through song, to learn more about some of Wales’ fascinating historical characters. The songs also present a chance for children to practice Welsh, singing along with closed captions.

The company are also releasing abridged adaptations of some of their shows as short films, including Mary Jones – My Footprint; Hedd Wyn – Why we must never forget; and Glenys Myfanwy – Living Through the Blitz. There are also activity packs available alongside each film, suitable for children to complete at school or at home.

Eleri Twynog, In Character’s Director, announced:

“We are eager to help schools and parents in any way to continue to educate children about Welsh history during thie challenging time. The company has a collection of about 30 shows which usually tour schools across Wales. We look forward to the time that we can be back on the road, but in the meantime, here’s a taster of our work”.
